There are so many options and places to see that if you decide to move here or just vacation it will have more than enough adventure for a life time

Visit the Mayan ruins at Copan

Some of the best preserved ruins are in a small city in western Honduras, near the border of Guatemala. The ruins represent one of the greatest pre-Columbian cities in Latin America that is still in pristine condition. Some of the best preserved story of early history is told in the wonderful buildings, sculptures and hieroglyphics in Copan. You can get personalized tours arranged from most of the major cities like Santa Rose.

Visit the Bay Islands

If you would like to experience some of Honduras great areas one area that I highly recommend that you check out is Honduras’ Bay Islands. They offer many different types of attractions that are available in one location. Some of the things they offer is diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, or relaxing on a beach. Many of the best hotels and resorts in Honduras are located in the Bay Islands. Although it is more of a touristy area you will never have lack of anything to experience in this area.

Go Diving on a Coral Reef

The Bay Islands are one of the most significant areas in Honduras. They are surrounded by the second largest coral reef in the world. The area reef is called the Mesa American Barrier Reef. The reefs are surrounded by some wonderful diving schools offering snorkeling and diving instructions so that you can also experience one of nature’s own creations from a fish’s perspective. They are many types of intricate coral, under water cliffs and caves, as well as some of the brightly colored tropical fish seen nowhere else in the world. For those of you that like the prospect of buried treasure or history some of the shipwrecks off this reef date back thousands of years.

Exotic Honduras Animals

Honduras also offers you the opportunity to see some truly remarkable wildlife. Some of Latin Americas most exotic creatures not found anywhere else in the world reside in Honduras’s tropical temperate zones. You can dive with hundreds of species of fish or hike into some of the sub tropical zones and see some of the most colorful and exotic avian creatures that Honduras has to offer.  A lot of these creatures are in danger of becoming extinct so this may be a once in a life time opportunity. But as always please be careful to mind that you are in there home not yours when you do go.

Visit the rainforests of the Mosquito Coast

The rain forest in Honduras is one of the largest parts ones that are left north of the Amazon and are one of the main attractions that have become very popular among visitors to Honduras. The rain forest is a protected national treasure by the Honduran government and the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve along with other nation parks and associations. The park on Mosquito Coast has some of the ecological and biodiversity that has made Honduras famous and the lush green scenery and is a place where a hike or boat ride is highly recommended. Along with some of the more conservative attractions you can apply to go on eco tours which you can learn and see firsthand some of the devastation of global warming. So go and take a look.

Go to a Honduran festival & La Ceiba Carnaval

Most if not all the towns in Honduras have a celebration for many of the patron saints that the Catholic Church has recognized. The largest festival by far would be for La Ceiba carnaval in mid June and the Feria Juniana at San Pedro Sula in late May, have become huge national events, attracting visitors from around Latin America and across the country. The parties at these festivals last for weeks which make them very popular to a lot of different people. You can see the local parades, experience the local food and see the unique gifts they sell and at the end of the day start to see the night life come alive the Honduran way.

Go on an Adventure Tour

There are many different tours available for you to participate in all around the coutry or you can make a big tour plan and see all the sites that Honduras has to offer. Honduras offers world class diving and snorkeling in the bay islands, to site seeing history in the west, or the festivals to the central part of the country. There are tours for every type of budget and personality, if you do not find one you like make your own there are many companies in Honduras that will mold a package just to fit your taste.

Relax on a Beach

Of course you are on vacation and you just may not want to see or hear anything at all. But your idea of having a great time is to find one of the many secluded beaches and pull out the hammock you bought down and relax and sleep away a week’s worth of stress . Made even better that you know no one even knows where you are and you can keep all the gizmos and gadgets back home. Then take a dip in the ocean and go back to sleep again on the hammock. So one of the many reasons people go to Honduras is for the beaches what a better way than not to spend your vacation. Hundreds of miles of coastline on two oceans, so spending a day on the beaches is one of the great things to do in Honduras.

Bluebirds of North America

There are three species of these colorful North American birds. Eastern and Western bluebirds have a reddish brown breast, which contrasts with their predominately blue plumage. Their relative, the (male) Mountain bluebird is entirely blue.

Eastern bluebirds are primarily found east of the Rockies, and range from Canada to Mexico and Honduras. They are much admired for their lovely coloring and for a distinctive song that many hear as “chur-lee, chur-lee.” The Eastern Bluebird is the state bird of both New York and Missouri.

Western Bluebirds are found west of the Rocky Mountains from Canada to Mexico. The Mountain Bluebird also inhabits much of western North America – often at elevations above 7,000 feet (2,133 meters).

Bluebirds eat small fruits and hunt insects, spiders, and other small creatures. The birds perch, watch, and then swoop to the ground to pounce on their prey much like an eagle or hawk would.

Pairs mate in spring and summer, when they construct small, bowl-shaped nests. Females lay four or five eggs and incubate them for about two weeks. Young remain in the nest, cared for by both parents, for an additional 15 to 20 days. Bluebirds often have two broods in a season. Sometimes, a young Bluebird from the first brood will remain in the nest and assist its’ parents in caring for the second.

Bluebirds living in higher latitudes may head south if food becomes scarce or temperatures are too cold. Mountain bluebirds typically migrate to lower elevations during the same lean seasons.

Bluebirds are considered fairly common, but their numbers have declined substantially during the last century. Populations have been given a boost by the birdhouse boxes that have become popular in many parks and backyards and more people putting out food to attract them to their yards.

Attracting Bluebirds

Many people think that all you need to do to attract bluebirds is to offer them housing. Well, this is certainly a key first step. There are several other ways you can help and enjoy bluebirds even more. A real key is water – make it available because like most rushes, Bluebirds bathe with enthusiasm and are readily attracted to water. Often a simple birdbath will do the trick – check out the new ones that we have in stock. A key is to position the bath so there is a perching site nearby for the birds to preen after their bath. Many of you will have Bluebirds coming right on your deck if you use a heated bird bath in the winter.

Offer Food – the key here is to think of what Bluebirds want to eat. The answer generally is insects. The best way to start is to offer mealworms on a platform or in a bluebird feeder. We sell mealworms at The Bird Feeder Shop because they are the favorite of Bluebirds and other types of birds, and at 50.4% protein are an excellent nutritional source. You can start feeding mealworms in a cup or pan – but because many birds like them they will eat you out of house and home! Most people graduate to a Blue Bird feeder. A Bluebird feeder is designed so the bluebirds have to go through an entrance to find worms and few birds besides the bluebird will do so. You might spend weeks trying different presentations of worms before bluebirds learn to dine regularly, but the results are worth it, as bluebird’s are delightfully trainable even to the point of responding to whistles and other calls when your feeder is refilled.

Provide perches and natural foods. Bluebirds like perches within sight of their home where they can scan the ground for insects. Small trees pruned to create a clear line of sight from the lower branches are ideal or tomato stakes with cross pieces on the top can work.

You may check out our our store The Bird Feeder Shop on the Internet for the items I wrote about to attract Bluebirds to your yard.

About the Author

My wife and I love watching the birds in our backyard. A couple of years ago we were overrun by Starlings and Grackles driving out the beautiful songbirds. I decided at that time to open a wild bird feeder store where I would specialize in feeders that would deter the Starlings, Grackles and Squirrels. This lead into many other area of the Wild Bird Supplies and I am enjoying trying to help others to attract the birds they want, and to deter the ones they do not want. I will say that I have never found a feeder that I could give a 100% guarantee that Starling, Grackles or Squirrels could out smart and find a way to get some food, but I can guarantee you will not having them overrunning your feeders and scaring all the song birds away.

A Tale About Honduras Cigars

Tastes significantly matter for cigar as it matters for wine. It is all right if have already found cigar own choice and taste. But, it does not mean that you could not check out other brands. Huge popularity of cigar has flourished a many companies and also formed numerous stories all along. Cuban cigar is one of the most famous brands but controversy and ban has bigger role here in its popularity.
Experts suppose that quality of filler and brand name both together form an identity for the cigar. These experts also accept that few cigar crazies smoke famous cigars because it is about their prestige issues not the taste. Now, in consecutive context, here comes a name ‘Honduras’. It is a virtual Mecca for avid cigar lovers. It is believed that it is a place where tobacco seeds go to make their parents proud. Hurricane devastation, political diversity, and human rights violations; together made this country the poorest one in Central America. But, the fortune of this country turns when its adjacent countries feel the need of tobacco. It is the place where they first knock the door.
Historical facts suggest that there was substantial numbers of inflow of expert cigar makers from Havana with the permission of Castro’s government, around the year 1960. So, certainly Honduras tobacco has Cuban roots. Natural climatic condition in Honduras also encourages cigar production. Due to favorable condition, Honduras cigars use to be flavorful, full-bodied, strong, and in possession of a heavy aroma. Once, Cuban cigars were unanimously supposed the king of the cigar market. But, after the entry of Honduras cigars, everybody accepted it as a quality competitor for Cuban’s.
Growing reputation as quality cigar makers provided a fantastic opportunity to the country to rebuild its past destruction/turmoil. Flourishing cigar business undoubtedly strengthened the country’s economy and still it is continued. However, Christopher Columbus already “discovered” country’s prosperity in lived history, even the tale behind country’s name is so romantic.

how does chiquita banana effect on social programs, and human rights issues in Honduras?

Chiquita is an American-owned company. Most foreign companies tend to exploit the resources and labor of the country, giving very little back in return. I’m not sure about Chiquita and human rights issues, per se, other than Chiquita is the successor of the United Fruit Company, which was responsible for the 1954 coup in Guatemala when the democratically elected president, Arbenz, threatened to push them out of the country. What resulted was 30+plus years of American puppet dictators and massive human rights violations. If you take a look at the wikipedia article, you’ll see it says that Chiquita was fined 25M for having ties to Colombian paramilitary groups.

Obama’s Test From Chávez

Of all the foreign policy messes George W. Bush is handing off to President-elect Barack Obama, Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez is the worst. On the two tests where Chávez is the key — shaping a respectful long-term relationship with Latin America and the short-term terrorist threat from Venezuela — Bush scored an F. Obama’s got real work carved out for him.

With 200 of its 550 million people living on $2 or less per day, Latin America suffers from a long-term inability to develop a win-win relationship with the economic colossus to the north, where the GDP per capita is seven times greater than below the Rio Grande.

The success of 45 million Hispanic Americans, who on a per capita basis earn three times what their relatives do back home, dramatizes the long-term solution. The modern system of lawful wealth creation is inefficacious in Latin America, which consequently has not developed as rapidly as Asia or much of Africa, and that in turn has spurred immigration to the states including 12 million illegally.

The solution was supposed to be the Washington Consensus policies — budget balancing, more taxes, fiscal austerity, free trade, fighting government corruption and privatization of state enterprises — which became loan qualifications for IMF, World Bank and US aid. But these stern policies — which Washington rarely applied to itself — failed to reduce poverty and backfired especially against the Latin American political leaders who had the courage to apply them. That backfire gave rise to the virulent strain of anti-Americanism that produced Chávez.

In 1989, there were riots against the Washington Consensus reforms imposed on President Carlos Andres Perez of Venezuela, which were followed in 1992 by a coup attempt launched by Chávez against Perez, who was impeached shortly afterward. Then Chávez rose from the ashes of prison to win the presidency in 1998. He has been savaging American capitalism and power ever since while being subsidized by American gasoline buyers.

A few years later, similar riots against Washington’s rules ousted President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada of Bolivia, whose request for a $50 million loan to President Bush was dismissed in the Oval Office with the crack “Who am I, Santa Claus?” The upshot in 2005 was the election of the indigenous leader Evo Morales to Bolivia’s presidency, who gladly took Chávez’s money and imitated his savage anti-American discourse.

Argentina, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Dominica, and Honduras then fell like dominoes into the oil-funded anti-American camp of Chávez, who had simultaneously aligned fifty billion dollars worth of business with the FARC narco-terrorists in Colombia, OPEC, Iran, Syria, Hamas, Hezbollah, China, Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and anyone who would trash Bush — who ignored it all, pretending everything was OK.

Bush is thus handing off to Obama a Latin America that is deeply suspicious of America; where Iranian, Russian and Chinese weapons and businesses are found everywhere in the Chávez circle of countries; where the growing threats of nuclear weapons proliferation, terrorism, money-laundering, human and narcotics trafficking have become the norm; where two US ambassadors were kicked out of Venezuela and Bolivia; and where a global recession that is blamed on U.S. profligacy will worsen immigration, poverty, violence and instability in the whole region.

More than any of his predecessors since World War II, President Obama needs a dramatic change in the relationship with Latin America. To attack poverty, the underlying problem, Obama needs to get the tools of wealth creation — education, private property, enterprises, and cheap credit — to the 200 million Latin Americans who live on $2 per day. He could use a Marshall Plan involving the public and private sectors of the rich democracies to interact with Latin America on the ground in the barrios and directly with poor people. The “community organizer” Obama once was in Chicago is precisely what the Latin American poor need in their corner today.

As for Chávez’s short term terrorist threat, Obama has to move fast. Even though the recession has cut Chávez’s oil income by more than half, he still has the largest and best-equipped standing army in Latin America, Russian submarines and fighter jets, Iranian missiles, uranium mines, Hezbollah and FARC training and rest camps, and a cocaine and money-laundering operation that makes Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme look like tiddlywinks.

Chávez is armed, scared, trapped and dangerous. He’s scared of being prosecuted for crimes against humanity if he’s removed from office. He’s trapped by falling oil income that props up his personal army, a huge bureaucracy, and half the payrolls in Venezuela. A paranoid sociopath, Chávez has lost his bugaboo — Bush — and is facing a cool, intelligent black replacement. In such circumstances, he may fabricate a crisis so he can declare martial law and wage war against the U.S. as Fidel Castro did in Cuba 50 years ago. Expect Iran, Russia and maybe China to be denying involvement in it.

To counter Chávez, Obama should eliminate U.S. dependence on Venezuela’s oil and thus stop subsidizing Chávez’s state sponsorship of terrorism. This is not as difficult a task as Bush thought, because Venezuela’s fuels are not needed in a recession. But without U.S. revenues to subsidize his megalomaniacal fanaticism, Chávez will face new enemies among the military closest to him, including thousands of Cubans loyal to Chávez’s money not his dreams of grandeur. By protecting America, Obama could really help the suppressed democracy of Venezuela.
