Inexpensive things to do in Roatan honduras and Belize City, Belize?
I am going on a cruise in October and bringing 2 teenagers. We will be parasailing in Key West and have some plans for Costa Maya too. I don’t want to spend much on the other ports as we are on a budget. Any suggestions of what the four of us can do in Roatan and Belize that is inexpensive but still fun for teenaged girls (16) and us too?
The new port in Roatan is beautiful! It just opened in November and all the shops are relatively new. I went there in December and my husband couldn’t get off the ship due to the malaria threat (he gives plasma) so I was on my own. They have a chair lift that takes you from the port to the beach. It was $5 and you could ride it as much as you want. The beach was beautiful. I spent a bunch of time there just relaxing. There’s a nice restaurant there also. There’s a zip line right at the port also. I’m not sure about the price. I saw it, but didn’t go because I was alone. Be aware that at times there is social unrest in different parts of Honduras. If I remember, the time spent in Roatan wasn’t very long so if you enjoy beaches, I’d just spend my time there, relaxing. There are some nice deals on liquor in the gift shop if you want to shop for that sort of thing.
We went to Belize also. The port was sort of old, but interesting. There are no beaches near the port itself, but if you take a taxi inland you could find some. We ended up taking a city/zoo tour. While the zoo was very interesting (also very hot!), the drive through the city ion the bus was very long. It was interesting, although somewhat depressing to see how they live, it made for a long hot day. If we go again, we’d opt to hire a taxi and go to a beach or a resort that also caters to cruise passengers.
