Top 5 Picks for a Surf Vacation

The more real definition of surfing is that desire of being in the water and having the freedom to conquer a magical force that can bring you to places you’ve never imagined before. Surfing presents a different world of adventure. Just like when you take a new drug, it can be so addictive. But surfing without the large waves is somehow like drinking hot beer. So to do away with your surf vacation pains, we listed the best places for surfers to go.

1. Gold Coast, Australia

It is undeniable that Australia has the world’s best waves and beaches which make the ingredients for a perfect surf vacation. Gold Coast is the sixth most populated city in the country and it is found in the southeast corner of Queensland. It is popular for sunny subtropical climate, popular surfing areas and canal systems. Despite its being expensive, it is still a great surfing destination for both the newbies and pros.

2. Mentawai Islands, Indonesia

Located off the western coast of Sumatra, the Mentawai Islands is one of the best surfing destinations in Asia. All of the seventy islands and islets that comprise it are rich in huge waves. The four major islands that comprise it block most swells from hitting the mainland which is paradise for wave-hungry surfers who are after a surf vacation and a great adventure. For that great surf vacation, the islands can only be reached by sea and only by riding ferries and charter boats.

3. Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

Jeffrey’s Bay is located in the Eastern cape part of South Africa. Only an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth, it’s one of the most popular surfing destinations in the whole world. In the winter months of June, July and August, surfers from all over the world gather and enjoy great rides from beaches like Super Tubes, Boneyards, Kitchen Windows and more.

4. Fuerteventura, Spain

Fuerteventura is referred to as the Mecca of Surfers. It’s part of the Canary Island and is considered the second largest of all of them found in the Atlantic Ocean. Most surfers consider Fuerteventura a personal favorite because it can be visited in any time of the year. Its temperature doesn’t go down to less than 18 degrees Celsius or rise above 24 degrees. But seasoned surfers would frequent the area around October to March.

5. El Salvador

Also popularly known as the Republic of El Salvador, it borders the Pacific Ocean and Honduras. The country is now gaining popularity because of the many famous professional surfers who frequent it like El Zonte, La Libertad, and Sunzal. The reason for this is that El Salvador is not too crowded which makes it a perfect destination for a spontaneous and intimate surf vacation. The major swells appear during March to October coinciding with the rainy season where waves often go as high as 10 feet.

honduras or costa rica for a beach vacation late nov-early dec?

for honduras i was thinking roatan & for costa rica ??? not sure…

it will be approx. 10 days & of course cost would come into consideration (place to stay, food, transportation, entertainment, etc.) (ie: flights from the northwest to honduras is approx. $1000, to costa rica approx. $750)

only requirements are that there be a nice beach, some tourism is okay but not a college spring break, maybe some snorkeling or surfing, decent nightlife. thanks :D

Honduras is the best opcion. There are beautiful beaches like

Bay Islands ( Islas de la Bahia) Group of three islands.
Tela
Puerto Cortes ( Cortes Port)
Omoa
La Ceiba
and some other beatiful beaches!! Good Travel!!!

Try american Airlines, the cost is between $ 650 – $ 700.
